AONP AAU Rule Amendments

Please note:  All tournaments are not AAU.  AAU Tournaments are run by independent event operators and unfortunately not all event operators have the athletes or your best interest at heart and modify rules to benefit the bottom line.  At AONP our goal is to follow all AAU Guidance, but AAU allows Event Operators to run invitationals under modified rules.  If you actually look at the Competitive rules they are directed to District, Regional and World Events.  We have decided that we want to take advantage of this opportunity to provide a few things you have asked for.  Please see the following changes:

Coaches Dress Code:  AAU dress code is directed to attendance at the World Event.  The only requirement in our dress code is you are not allowed to wear anything offensive as viewed by local, state and government policies.  We do not have a set dress code for coaches but highly recommend all coaches dress in a professional manner.

Coaches Conduct:  We agree with ALL AAU Guidance but please note the following:

  • THE REFEREES SHOULD ONLY BE ADDRESSED BY THE HEAD COACH.  Failure to comply will result in a technical foul.

AAU Press Rule:

AAU Official Press Rule

For 7U, 8U, 9U, 10U, 2 nd, 3rd and 4th Grade Age Divisions: Teams ahead by 20 points or more at any point in the second half must play defense behind their three-point arc. First offense: Warning, Second and all additional offenses: 2 shot administrative technical.

For 11U, 5th Grade and older: Teams ahead by 30 points or more at any point in the second half must play defense behind their three-point arc. First offense: Warning, Second and all additional offenses: 2 shot administrative technical.

All or Nothing Tournament AONP EXCEPTION  (MERCY RULE)  This is NOT AN AAU RULE

  • AONP events will not use the AAU Press Rule of staying behind the arc for defense rule when points are exceeded.  Teams will ONLY be allowed to use a half court press in this situation.
  • If a team is up by 30 points in the second half and ONLY IF BOTH COACHES AGREE the referees can implement a running clock.  Reminder:  AAU ONLY allows a 15 point differential so more points does not allow higher seeding.  Please be understanding if the other coach does not agree.  Some coaches that are ahead want the extra playing time for players who need additional minutes

AONP will follow other AAU guidance such as 4 quarters of play, no running clocks unless agreed upon and full time outs.
